One of the primary tasks of a local church pastor is to provide inspirational weekly messages that call congregants to live out their lives as disciples of Jesus Christ. The purpose of this course is to encourage and support pastors as they grow in the craft of preaching. Pastors will be invited to focus on the discipline of preaching as they learn, write, and preach their own sermons. Over five sessions comprising two workshops and three practical application gatherings, preachers will grow in effectiveness, preparation, and communication. Participants will discuss best sermon design practices, including intent, focus, and delivery. In small groups, each pastor will have the opportunity to preach their sermon, and peers will offer constructive feedback to assist the preacher in developing content and delivery. This feedback method will be provided in a way that can be replicated for future work with other clergy and/or the local congregation.
